Strike A Pose . . .

It may not be the Garden, but Madonna rocked Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas! Madge has not visited the bayou city since 1990’s Blond Ambition Tour and unfortunately that was one tour I missed seeing my parents thought I was too young (I was in 6th grade!)

We should have known that it was going to be a fabulous and crazy night with the girls. Of course my sister, Julie was there (and no she did not wear her Blond Ambition t-shirt) and our best friends, who go all the way back to first grade.

Tina arrived at our apartment and our mini-van cab was right on time except for the fact that he kept driving. Me being paranoid began running after him, not thinking that he might be turning around. I mean NYC it is very cut throat when hailing cabs, just imagine Neiman’s preview for Last Call when it comes to the shoes and Couture. So my sister and Tina are dying at this point and so is the cab driver who is like “You just made my night, I wish I would have had a camera.” Don’t worry mister we have one and let the adventure begin!

Our first stop is the House of Blues for pre-drinks and a light snack. As we walk into the packed House of Blues, we run into our friends Laurie and Lia. We chatted it up for a few minutes before claiming the banquets in the bar.

People watching has become a sport and it was mildly entertaining. So after a very long wait for cocktails, we decided that we needed a snack since the drinks were going down a little too easily. The food was decent however the service was so slow and not to mention they were running out of food. Seriously how could they not know that they would have a huge crowd seeing the Material Girl was in town? Finally we get our seared ahi tuna and spinach and artichoke dip, when our other waiter surprised with another round of complimentary drinks. However Tina was insisting that the guy was not being serious about the drinks being on him (looks like someone lost track of the beverages).

Glamor Shot
So after our libations and snacks we decided it was time to go see the Queen (who will topple the King in 29 Days)! While Julie, Tina and I are debating should we walk it to the stadium or cab it that maybe we should just Rickshaw our way seeing he was right there on the curb.
So after a few minutes of digging for cash we decided we would tip around $8 or $9, so of course Julie was to jump out and pay. Our rickshaw man peddled his little heart out with the three of us acting like kids back in high-school; except for me that would make me in grade school (I am way younger!)

As we pile out, Julie pays our little man and then next thing we know Tina is tipping a little extra, but not realizing that Julie took care of it. All I can say is that we made that guys night between our insanity and the $27 dollar tip!

So we make our way into the stadium and begin to navigate our way to the seats. Our friends Kern, Hunter, and several others were there but we were all scattered, however Hunter did make his way over. While chatting it up with Hunter our friends Kristina and Katherine arrived. Of course the older kids sat together and let the little ones sit together. It totally reminded me of the summer before first grade when we saw Return of the Jedi at the Plit. Yet this time Kristina and I were not sitting on the front row throwing popcorn at our sisters and Tina.

Finally after the much anticipated wait and fatigue setting in, Madge rolls up in a Suburban, and her dancers trailing behind on golf carts or on foot. After a brief wait the lights go down and then the rolling gum drop begins its winding decent.
A minute or so of watching the gum drop roll and hearing the pounding beats of Hard Candy, Madonna appears on the throne! If you are an avid reader like Sean then you know what to expect: high energy dance moves and a totally satisfying set lis! Everything from Get in the Grove, an electrifying version of Human Nature and Borderline (which I do like now), Vogue, La Isla Bonita, You Must Love Me (from Evita and yes Madge we LOVE YOU), She’s Not Me (love the homage that that features her transformation of the last 25 years (such as Like A Virgin, Material Girl, Dominatrix, to cone bra Madonna, esp the tongue and cheek of her kissing the Like A Virgin Madonna) Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You, Spanish Lesson, Like A Prayer, Ray of Light and so many other fabulous goodies!!

Of course we did get our song choice and the people in the front picked Secret, great song but there are so many others that should have been requested. What about: Who’s that Girl, Open Your Heart, Casing a Commotion and the list could go on and on.

We belted out Secret right along with Madge and of course we somewhat remembered how the song goes and love that Madonna fest up to that she did not even remember the words.
Madge did her political video, and I must say that we were delighted that she did do a little editing. Love that she did not chant her anti-Palin number, think what you want but don’t push your political views on me!

It was a fantastic show and I was even more thrilled that my sister and I were able to be with our best friend’s voguing with our best friends!
Thanks Madonna for great show and keep the dance grooves coming!

P.S. Madonna you were in Houston in 1990 - Blond Ambition tour, so yes you have been to Houston before, Julie and Tina even saw you after the concert at the Stoffer Hotel (across from the Summit)
