Waiting for the 7 to Shea Stadium
How about them Yankees! Yes I know they got pummeled by the Mets earlier in the day (Friday, June 27th), Rosella and I watched the heart breaking game at J.G. Mellon’s as we were chowing down on some bacon cheeseburgers and an ice cold STELLA.
However the Yankees luck changed for the better and being the classy team that they are, modestly shut out the Mets 9-0! It was absolutely amazing watching former Astros A. Rod (continuing his scoreless streak), Pettit, and Beltran battle it out. Jeter, Damon, and Giambi were fabulous too (I am probably only naming Yankees but the only Met that stands out is Beletran because he was a ‘stros).
As we were walking into the stadium sporting our Yankee pride, we were actually heckled by the Met's staff, and we were hoping it was in fun but I think they were serious, so of course I was like we will be back when the ‘stros play in August, Go ‘STROS!
Finally, Rosella and I make it to our seats overlooking the outfield, and enjoying our ice cold Miller Lite and the beautiful sunset over Shea. We then noticed that this one Met’s fan in front of us, managed to smuggle in his own hot dogs, whole wheat buns, and Gordon’s mustard. It was absolutely hysterical and we believe that our, neighbors next to us even smuggled their own beer, genius I must say.

Finally the game begins, and the Met’s fans begin the heckling, and they were quite intense seeing we were in their house. For the first three innings, the Mets were mocking the Yankees up until we scored the first run. They began to quiet down as the Yankee fans chanted “Let’s Go Yankee’s”, however that is when the bantering took a turn verbal disagreements that let to one woman in her orange Mets jersey to throw a Yankees fans baseball hat a few row up, and anther guy to throw his full beer over everyone, not sure if was because he was excited the Yankees scored or not.
Of course Rosella and I were watching the game but I think we were more into the people watching especially the parade of acid wash jeans circa 1983, all I can say is Acid Wash is alive and kicking up in Queens!
As the game progressed and the Yankees continued to dominate the game, the Mets fans one by one began their walk of shame back to the subway, kind of sad that they would give up so easily on their team especially seeing it one of the last games of the Subways Series to be played in Shea Stadium.
I must say the fans were the best part of the game and especially the drunk kid singing Rocky Mountain High, CLASSIC.

I must say I am thrilled to have witnessed America’s teams battle it out and to have watched it in the final days of Shea Stadium, would have loved to been at Yankee Stadium, but hey least I had the opportunity.
Dedicated METS fan, check out the inscription!
